Cook delicious Indian food by mastering the basics
If you watch my videos and want to cook Indian food with confidence too, I can show you how.
But before you jump into more recipes, you must learn some important basics first.
Recipes are everywhere.
They are not hard to find.
The hard part is knowing how to make the food taste right!
Most people try recipes without understanding the basics first.
Sometimes the food comes out good, but you might not know why or how to repeat it.
That’s exactly why I created More Than Curry.
It teaches you a specific set of recipes and cooking methods that appear again and again - which transfer to hundreds of other dishes in the cuisine.
The things I mastered to cook 130+ regional Indian recipes to a high standard before even visiting India.
The Dishes That Make Indian Cooking Make Sense
Vegetarian Indian home cooking is built around a set of key dish types.
Lentil dishes (dal) Vegetable dishes (sabzis) Rice, Roti or other breads. Chutneys, Pickles & Sides.
Once you understand what these are, why they matter, and how to cook them properly, Indian food becomes much easier to understand.
Inside the book:
- How to cook the key dishes properly and make them taste right
- Clear cooking instructions and step by step photos for each stage of the recipes - see what each part of the recipe should look like.
- The Important Basics in One Place: Essential equipment & spices you need for cooking.
- A troubleshooting section for common mistakes when cooking Indian food. Too spicy, salty, wet, dry, bitter, raw, or not quite right.
Why I made this
Early on in my career as a professional chef, I knew I wanted to teach cooking and build a business around my passion for it. That is a big part of why I started sharing food online. I have always loved cooking different cuisines from around the world, but over the years Indian home cooking became the cuisine I studied most deeply, especially because I worked alongside and learned from many Indian colleagues and friends during my time in a hotel kitchen.
I am not claiming ownership over Indian cuisine, and I am not trying to be a spokesperson for it. My role remains that of a serious student and teacher who has worked hard to understand the patterns, principles, and cooking logic well enough to help beginners cook it properly.
My aim is not just to curate recipes that already exist, but to contribute something useful to the way beginners learn the cuisine as a whole: a clearer, more manageable path into Indian home cooking that helps people understand what they are doing, cook with more confidence, and get results that still feel authentic.

Who this is for
- People who want to understand spices better
- People who want to cook Indian food at home but do not know where to start
- People who want their food to taste more authentic
- People who are tired of jumping between random recipes
- People who want the basics explained clearly
- People who want step-by-step guidance, not just a typical recipe method
- People who want to feel more confident in their cooking

Hi there, I enjoy "More than Curry" and learn a lot. When I ordered it I thought there is just this ebook. After receving it I found out that it is part of a bundle. If I buy all these ebooks piece by piece it will be much more expensive compared by buying the bundle. I find that annoying.
I also purchased the "Regional Cookbook of India" last year and love the content. But why has ist such a strange format? It is impossible to print it out with a good and usefull result.
Kind regards from Germany
P.S. I love Jakes videos, indian cuisine and learn a lot.
Excellent recipes .easy to understand and follow.
I put my masterchef skills to the test and the food came out incredibly Devine
Thank you
It’s an excellent introduction to Indian food making … esp good for uninitiated Indian food makers and I personally bought it for my child who is off to study at a university abroad and would like to make Indian food occasionally and although has grown up eating it is not nuanced in the smaller differences that are so well explained and documented in this book. I’ve been a fan of Jakes for many years. Glad he (finally)came to India! We wish him much success in the years to come.
Would have liked more recipes. But well worth the buy.
Jake, more than curry is everything i’ve needed to take my indian cooking to the next level! thank you!
